Purpose & Background

Since 2019, many Hong Kongers dispersed around the world have hoped to continue the identity of the Hong Kong nation. The 'Bonham Scholarship' came into being, aimed at nurturing outstanding young leaders to promote the development of democracy and human rights, and to continue the transmission of Hong Kong culture. It aims to cultivate a young generation with a mission to revive the values of freedom and democracy, thereby building a solid force to defend human rights and democracy. We sincerely invite like-minded companions to join us in constructing a blueprint for inheriting Hong Kong culture and identity.

Scholarship: £ 3,125 each

Eligibility

Eligibility: Year 1 or 2 Students studying a full-time bachelor degree in the UK

Eligibility: A practical plan for preserving Hong Kong's culture

A practical plan for preserving Hong Kong's culture, including personal insights on scientific research, education, political and economic development, or cultural development; a deep commitment to democratic values.

Eligibility: Second-year students are required to submit proof of university results with a GPA of 3.0 or above

Scholarship Feature

To support the awardees’ promotion of cultural and democratic development,  the Fund will provide them the following resources and assistance with the view to establishing some international network with global citizens embracing similar aspirations.

Mentorship Programme

Veterans with disciplines from different fields relevant to the interests of individual awardees would be assigned to serve as mentors of the awardees.

Networking

The Fund will assist the awardees to develop their network and establish ties with cultural and pro-democracy groups and individuals. This could reflect their plans for development of democracy in local and overseas communities in a positive perspective.

Board of Director of the Bonham Tree Aid CIC, teaching in the Department of Science at an American university, actively connecting with scholars, and passionate about researching information security strategies.

Ms Clara Cheung

Former Happy Valley District Councillor of Hong Kong, now an active art curator in the UK, assisting in organizing several exhibitions related to Hong Kong issues.

Prof. Chan-Fai Cheung

Former Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, foundational in establishing the university's humanities general education, dedicated to enhancing the quality of humanities at the university.

Former university vice-president in Hong Kong, actively working to create a more equitable academic system in Hong Kong's higher education sector, with a deep understanding of the industry's history.

Mr. Ken Lam

Head of an information technology company, who has participated in multiple civic organizations and movements. After relocating to the UK, Mr. Ken Lam has been actively uniting Hongkongers in the community.

Dr. Benson Wong

Former higher education electoral representative and former convener of Progressive Scholars Group in Hong Kong, who previously taught in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Baptist University. After relocating to the UK, Dr. Benson Wong has been actively involved in civic society activities.
